A Typical Goan Meal

October 8, 2007

A typical goan meal consists of :

Main:
Steamed white rice
Fish Curry/Daal
1 (or 2) vegetable side dish(es)
Fish Fry/Vegetable Rawa fry
Kokum curry with coconut

Extras:
Papad/pickle

First pickle is served. Followed by the vegetable. Then comes the fish fry. Then a generous serving of rice. The rice is divided into 2 parts on the plate – one for the fish curry and another for the kokum curry. First the fish curry is served. Once you finish with the fish curry-rice, the kokum curry is served.

No meal is complete without having these 2 curries. No Goan feels that he/she has had food without having rice with these curries!

This serving is for lunch as well as dinner :-)
