‘Ranchikud‘ is what a Kitchen is called in Konkani.
‘Ranchikud’ = ‘Ranap’ + ‘kud’
‘Ranap‘ means ‘to cook‘ in Konkani
‘Kud‘ means ‘room‘ in Konkani
Ranpachi Kud mhanje Ranchikud! (The room for cooking)
Hence the name for my kitchen is also ranchikud
To clarify doubts, I am a software engineer working with a company in Bangalore ![]()

Hi Mahendra, Welcome and Thanks for your comments
About email updates, I’ll need to check. I think you can subscribe to the RSS feeds, not sure how that works though! Another option is to check “Food Blog Desam”, you can find the link in the right side panel.
About Khat-khate, I understood what you are talking about. I’ve seen it being prepared and it’s a really tough dish to make! I’ll get the recipe from my mom!
Keep visiting!

Hi Ashu!
I just thoroughly enjoyed going thru your introductory section itself
I am also from konkani speaking community from kerala and seeing the familiarity in the words you have used here to refer to kitchen and room , its very interesting
we call “cooking in kitchen” as “randaap” and room as “kood” , we call kitchen as “vasseri” ….Will be a regular visitor to your site
Take Care Hugs to you

Hi Roopa! Didnt’ realise you were the same RV
Oh! that’s nice! I didn’t know that!
In goa, a living room is called as “vasrro” (Vas-rro). This is mostly called in the old houses which had many rooms. Nowadays it’s called “hall”
Hugs to you too
Thanks for your comment!

I am looking forward to learn some vegetarian dishes from goa. My brother cooks beef vindaloo (says that is goan). Is that true?
I would love to see some vegetarian goan dishes. I love coconut based dishes, so i am looking forward to see some of them.
PS: could you change the link to my site to
http://www.archanaskitchen.com. I just shifted to my own website to have some flexibility. Sorry for any inconvenience

Hi, have you managed to get the recipe of khatkhati? I hope you are not confusing it with Khatkhate( the curry with lots of roots and vegetables all together). I am talking of the coconut and jaggery sweet. You might have know it by a different name.
@shu - Sorry Mahendra! I’ve not got the recipe! No one usually prepares it nowadays.. Last time I ate it was almost a decade ago.. when my grandma had prepared it. Are you planning to prepare it at home?
